Friendship Exchange……It's Group Study Exchange for the rest of us!
The Rotary Friendship exchange program gives Rotarians and their families the opportunity to host and visit Rotarians around the world. In addition to experiencing other cultures and making lasting friendships, an exchange provides a strong foundation for carrying out international service projects.
This marks the first year that our district has taken part in a friendship exchange, and it will be with India. Rotarians, who may be accompanied by their partners, will travel to India at their own expense, then will home-stay and travel with Rotarians from District 3060 in Western India. The travel dates are Jan 3 - Jan 18.
Then, District 3060 will send a team of Rotarians who we will host and entertain in return. The inbound team will be here in time for our District Conference in May and stay over for the International Conference in New Orleans.
District 3060 comprises the state of Gujarat. Gujarat is the westernmost state in India and its capital is Gandhinagar. Its largest city is Ahmedabad. Gujarat is home to the Gujarati speaking people of India. The state encompasses major sites of the Indus Valley Civilization such as Lothal and Dholavira. Gujarat has continually played an important role in the economic history of India. Even today, Gujarat has one of the fastest growing economies in India. It is home to major ports in India's ancient and modern history, leading it to become one of the main trade and commerce centers of India. Lothal, one of the world's first ports, is located in Gujarat. Mohandas Gandhi, considered as India's "father of the nation," was a Gujarati who led the Indian Independence Movement against the British rule.
